Sacramento farmers market to return as a ‘fresh food paradise.’ When is opening day?
Spring weather signals the return of some of Sacramento’s most popular seasonal farmers markets and this one is known to offer free yoga and cooking classes.
Oak Park Farmers Market returns on April 6 at McClatchy Park at 3500 Fifth Ave. with chef demonstrations, live music, coupons and more, according to its Facebook page.
“A day at our market is filled with health and fun, whether it’s hanging out with your neighbors for a conversation and a bite to eat, or joining a free yoga or cooking class,” Oak Park Business District stated.
The market was formed in 2010 to “fill a need” in Oak Park after a community survey revealed that residents couldn’t easily access fresh produce, according to the Food Literacy Center, which operates the market.
Since its opening, the market has welcomed roughly 1,500 visitors per week.
“Get ready to mark your calendars ... every Saturday is going to be a fresh food paradise,” the Sacramento-based nonprofit organization stated, adding that a third of its sales are through food assistance services.
Also available will be fresh flowers, family-friendly crafts and games, baked goods, tamales, kombucha, coffee and cheeses, according to the market’s Facebook page.
